Step by step

How it works

  1. Share one folder

Sharing is limited to that one folder on the PC.

  2. Connect by name or address

Devices connect by ComputerName.local, a Wi-Fi, LAN or VPN address.

  3. Scan with a phone

A phone can connect by scanning a QR code.

Why

That's why we built File Share

For people who keep their files on a Windows PC and want phones and other devices to open one folder, CPFS is the Windows app that shares only that folder. It uses a separate account and hardened Windows settings, and uninstalling it puts the original settings back.

  • Hardened Windows settings

CPFS runs with a separate account and hardened Windows settings.

  • Uninstall restores settings

Uninstalling puts the original Windows settings back.

  • Works with five systems

Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS devices can connect.

Release stage

  1. Alpha Works, but may still change 0.1.0
  2. Beta Feature-complete, being polished 0.7.0
  3. Stable Ready for everyday use 0.8.0

Getting it running

3 steps

  1. Download the .exe from the latest release on GitHub. It's one file, with no installer.
  2. Save it anywhere and run it. CPFS asks for administrator rights only when Setup, Monitor or Uninstall need them.
  3. The file is not signed, so the first time Windows SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC". Select More info, then Run anyway.

Documentation

More details

CPFS shares one folder on a Windows 10 or 11 PC with Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS devices. They connect by the PC's name (ComputerName.local), by its Wi-Fi or LAN address, or by a VPN address, and a phone can connect with a QR code. Sharing is limited to that folder, with a separate account and hardened Windows settings, and the uninstall puts the original settings back.
